Heading Into 2015: Contact.

Goal 1: Contact.

It's pretty much self-admitted that I suck at keeping in contact with people. I think a lot of it comes down to just having the free time to sit down and truly enjoy a conversation with someone and catch up.

As the year winds down, I kinda just wanna catch up with people.

With the numerous birthday posts yesterday (BTW: Thank you for the birthday wishes!) it bought up a lot of people I haven't really talked to in quite a while, for reasons unknown. I feel like a lot of these things happen as people go on their own separate paths, but it's always nice to just sit down and catch up with someone. Sometimes I just forget about the simple things in life, like just talking to old friends.

Today, for instance, I was texting a good friend of mine who I haven't talked to much lately. He PM'd me on Twitter to make sure he had the correct number, and we've just been talking about life and the such throughout the day. I just sent an e-mail to my "surrogate family" with whom I spent a lot of time with when I was in Georgia..... I haven't talked to them in ages, and I specifically remember always calling them whenever I was in California visiting with my family.

I use to be that guy who would never miss a phone call, text message, e-mail, or some form of contact with another person. I wrote letters, sent cards, wrote e-mails, and did whatever to keep contact going with other people. Now days? I have to physically write a note sometimes just to remember to text someone back. Forget phone calls. E-mails? Letters? Cards??

I wanna do better.

So, as I move into 2015, I want to get back to that. I bought a desk for my room as a way to establish a station of focus as well as give myself a place to zen out and focus on things. There's plenty of space (sorta) to crank out a couple of letters now.... which is not a problem considering how much writing I do at work.

Everything I aim to do is to establish contact again. Contact with the ones I'm always around, contact with people I always talk to, and contact with people period. It's easy to forget who your good friends are, even if you've known them for years. Sometimes all it takes is just that one phone call and it's like learning all over again. And it can be great. : )
